Australian Catchment Data Infrastructures

Over the last decade there have been a number of initiatives at the national level to report or promote coordinated access to catchment mapping and monitoring.

Australian Water Data Infrastructure Project (AWDIP)
An Executive Steering Committee for Australian Water Resources Information (ESCAWRI) has been established to facilitate development of a comprehensive and accessible national water information framework, to support ongoing water reforms and national assessments of water resources.
National Land and Water Resources Audit (NLWRA)
The NLWRA is a partnership between all States, Territories and the Commonwealth to facilitate improved decision-making on land, vegetation and water resource management in Australia. Its mission is to "provide data, information and nationwide assessments of Australia's land, water and biological resources to support sustainable development."
Australian Natural Resource Atlas (ANRA)
The ANRA provides access to the data and information prepared by the NLWRA and partners.
Australian Natural Resources Data Library (ANRDL)
The ANDRL allows users to find NLWRA data and information products, and to download data where allowed by the data custodian for use in geographical information systems or spatial modelling tools.
State of Environment (SoE)
National reporting of natural resource management and environmental issues every five years is a requirement of the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, with the latest release being for 2001.
Integrated Vegetation Online
Integrated Vegetation Online provides access to mapping of the distribution of major vegetation cover types in Australia, including native forests and grasslands and non-native vegetation.
Interactive Social Atlas
The Interactive Social Atlas allows customised regional maps to be created using ABS 2001 census data.
National Agricultural Monitoring System (NAMS)
NAMS contains online climate and agricultural production information, initially for dryland/broadacre industries for over 600 regions across Australia.
Australian Spatial Data Directory (ASDD)
The ASDD is an online directory launched in 1998 that provides access to descriptions of spatial datasets available from government and commercial organisations across Australia. The resource is used as a tool for finding out about existing spatial data and whether the dataset is useful for particular purposes.
Geographic Extent Name Register (GEN)
The GEN Register provides access to the geographical extents of a range of defined spatial entities such as map sheets, catchments, states, local government areas and statistical local areas. Each of these spatial entities is described in terms of category, name, jurisdiction and bounding geographical coordinates.
